Bob Carr's Issues & Plans
Orlando is in my blood. I grew up hearing about the issues facing our
rapidly-growing community. As a boy, I often spoke with the people
that shaped our city, including commissioners, business leaders and of
course my own father, Mayor Bob Carr. I am a true native son,
committed to my birthplace, and I remain current with the challenges
that confront our city and its residents.
This election is about not only the ability to make reasoned decisions
on issues, but also how well those decisions will be based on
meaningful discussion and cooperation with you, the people who choose
who goes to City Hall. For me, community dialogue is the rightful
foundation for planning and development, not a box to check off on the
way to a groundbreaking. Whether a project is initiated by government
or in the private sector, its neighbors will be better served by
up-front, two-way communication. In this way the quality of our
neighborhoods can be "more than preserved," enhanced. We will work
together to find your solutions: I can and will listen when you speak.
As a teacher, I already perform a front-line public service job. As a
faculty member, I am acutely aware of what can be accomplished when
people are able to work together effectively. As witness both as a
child and as an adult, I have seen how a positive spirit of cooperation
can grease the wheels of progress on the City Council - and how
animosity and acrimony can make the process seem more like rush hour on
I-4. My practice is to reach out to find resolution when others
disagree with me and to find creative solutions when policy comes into
conflict with the real needs of people. For a commissioner to do
otherwise does not effectively serve the people of his or her District.
I'm Bob Carr, Jr. I ask for your vote on March 14 so that I may serve
you.
